This was an external traditional Lime render project for a large domestic residence.

Where appearance counts…

Successful installation of external wall insulation and a coloured render finish to this home IN Lancashire.

Project Description

Contacted to provide lime rendering services following an extension to an existing, traditional farmhouse in Lancashire. The client contacted a Lancashire Rendering Network member after substandard work was provided by a previous rendering contractor. The client needed the project to be assessed and rectified before applying the second coat of render to the existing scratch coat to complete the works already carried out.

After assessing the project, there were several issues and challenges with the project. The initial challenge was adding to existing work that was substandard. Our member consulted with the client in order to provide a realistic outcome in line with his expectations. Any issues that may have caused future or ongoing problems were raised at this point. The client agreed for the suggested solutions to the issues raised to be completed. This meant rectifying existing work prior to beginning the rendering.

The project began by taking off and amending the existing beading which had been applied below the damp course. If left, this would have caused ongoing damp issues inside the building. The team then adjusted and rectified some of the corner beads in order to create plumb lines and to achieve the desired aesthetic. Our member also rectified several of the bifold window external beads as they out of line, therefore giving an uneven appearance to the bifold reveal. Once the existing work had been rectified and prepared, we then applied a topcoat of lime render to provide a smooth, durable finish.

The choice of render meant that the house kept its traditional style whist incorporating the new extended living quarters. The client required a quick turn around and the job was completed within one week.
